Have you realized how raw material on the Internet can help you figure out what people really think about things without spending a ton of time doing interviews?
It’s not scientific, I know, but here is a sampling of what I found when I searched “I love to read because”.
“I love to read because. . .
I get to escape my thoughts and problems and enter into a new world of the unknown. I get to walk in someone else’s shoes.”
I believe knowledge is the path to true freedom.”
of the absolute joy of it. If it’s a book, I get totally immersed. If it’s newspaper, magazine articles, or the internet, it’s all a way to expand the mind.”
it allows you to challenge your mind, understand things beyond your current level of thinking. It takes you away from reality to reflect on your problems without the stress and pain of before. Opens up the mind and heart to other persepctives. Allows you to grow beyond age and social class. ”
it is good exercise for the brain and it keeps the brain productive and healthy.”
I love to learn new things.”
I love to fall in love with characters and want to rip the heads off of others and sometimes those roles shift.”
it’s fun.”
I like to use my imagination.”
I love to learn and so I read, I absolutely believe that one can cultivate, grow their IQ. It’s not all in the genes.”
I like to tell other people about the books I read.”
it allows me to escape the stresses of my life temporarily. Sometimes I read to live in another era. Sometimes I read about a passionate love between two people against all odds. Sometimes I read mysteries and try to solve them before I get to the end of the book. Sometimes I read a boring technical manual to try to fall asleep.”
books don’t talk back.”
I get to go places and meet people and do things I would never have the chance otherwise.”
it feeds my imagination, stretches my mind, opens me and introduces me to new ideas and thoughts. I love getting into a great story, I fade away and immerse myself, releasing whatever else is on my mind, if only for a short time.”
I am on planes all the time, what better use of your time?”
I love being lost in a setting.”
it takes me to another place, makes me think about other peoples lives, and encourages me to broaden my thinking.”
I love reading about history, especially the unusual or the tawdry.”
it reminds of how big, abundant and creative the world really is!”
I can actually become a character and go to a fantasy world.”
it relaxes me.”
it keeps me on the edge of my seat.”
it is like watching TV but in your head.”
my parents taught me to be that way by example.”
it keeps me sane.”
some days it’s the closest thing to an adult conversation that I have.”
I was read to.”
I can get lost in a book for hours.”
I love being smart and learning.”
it opens my mind to new possibilities.”
it’s an inexpensive vacation!”
of one word – ESCAPISM!”
it’s total knowledge acquisition. There is soooo much to learn about people, the world, and the universe. I hope I can learn it all before I check out.”
I am still, quiet and swept away!”
regardless of how good or bad of a day you had, you can get lost in another place and time with a book. It let’s you forget about work, chores and other issues at hand.”
I can, because I love the silence that goes with it, the early morning cup of coffee, the relaxed position I am in. I love to read because it takes me to a place I may never get to go to, or to follow on the wings of people I will never be with. I love to read because I learn something new, I see the world through a different prism, in a different light, in a different color. I love to read because I love the journey of the story and I love to read words that can take my breath away with their beauty.”
that is ‘my time’ and no one can take it away from me.”
my husband gets jealous of the time I spend with a book.”
my children gets jealous of the time I spend with a book.”
it opens up the eyes of those around me when I am not 100% concentrating on them but myself instead.”
I love a good story. I can’t think of any other reason.”
it allows me to escape to another time/place. Reading encourages me to use my imagination. I get lost in my books allowing myself to become part of the story. This helps me relax and free my mind.”
it feeds my hungry brain.”
it is the best stress reliever in the world. Plus it lets me travel and experience new places and people I might never see or know.”
I can live vicariously through the heroine of the story!”
of the pure entertainment of it! Our minds are constantly ‘at work.’ Reading allows me to escape to a different world, experience new things, “see” new places. And, most importantly to me, STOP thinking – just enjoy the moment!”
it lets me escape deadlines, and reality!”
getting lost in a good book is one of the best ways to find yourself.”
it can take me to another place or time, another class of people, another nationality or within the norm for me. It can be uplifitng or bring me to tears. Sometimes it hits me where I need a shot. When you pick up a book you are exploring, adventuring or seeking truth. Sometimes you are seeking spiritualism. What it boils down to is reading is knowledge. Most authors today do extensive research into the life and times of what they are writing about. Reading teaches in the long run. I am all about learning.”
This sort of says it all, I think, but if you have other reasons, I’d really like to hear them and add them to the list.
