Planes, Trains, and Lanes

Our peripatetic spies spotted the following books being read by their fellow travelers this week. We decided just for fun to try categorizing the readers by age and gender to see if we could spot any patterns. This is what we came up with. Any comments?

20-Something Women

  • Kate Christensen – The Great Man
  • Ken Follett – Pillars of the Earth
  • Malcolm Gladwell – The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference
  • Monica McInerney – Family Baggage

  • 20-Something Men

  • Artie Lange – Too Fat to Fish
  • Jay McInerney – Bright Lights, Big City

  • 30-Something Women

  • Ken Follett – Night Over Water
  • Sergei Lukyanenko – The Last Watch
  • Marilynne Robinson – Housekeeping
  • Curtis Sittenfeld – Prep

  • 30-Something Men

  • Vladimir Nabokov – Lolita

  • Middle-Aged Women

  • Isabel Allende – City of the Beasts (in Spanish)
  • Paulo Coelho – The Alchemist
  • Thomas Dumm – Loneliness as a Way of Life

  • Middle-Aged Men

  • Clive Cussler and Jack Du Brul – Plague Ship
  • William Hogeland – Inventing American History

  • If you spot a title or two as you travel around, please share and we’ll include them in the column. Just send them to raoblog@lu.com

Ha. I’m traveling this week, and I’m always looking for one of you to “spot” me. Then I start wondering if you will label me as a 20-something, 30-something, or middle-aged!
