Planes, Trains, and Lanes

Our peripatetic spies spotted the following books being read by their fellow travelers this week. We decided just for fun to try categorizing the readers by age and gender to see if we could spot any patterns. This is what we came up with. Any comments?

20-Something Women
Jane Austen – Emma
Augusten Burroughs – Possible Side Effects
Jane Green – The Beach House
Rachel Kushner – Telex from Cuba
Tony Parsons – One for My Baby
Kurt Vonnegut – Slaughterhouse-Five

20-Something Men
Kurt Vonnegut – The Sirens of Titan

30-Something Women
Lisa Jackson – Absolute Fear
Mariah Stewart – Last Breath
William P. Young – The Shack

30-Something Men
Richard Bachman (aka Stephen King) – Blaze
Jack Kerouac – The Dharma Bums

Middle-Aged Women
Harlan Coben – Deal Breaker
Patricia Cornwell – Book of the Dead

Middle-Aged Men
James McBride – Miracle at St. Anna

If you spot a title or two as you travel around, please share and we’ll include them in the column. Just send them to raoblog@lu.com
