I just wanted to mention a great alternate history you will want to read after July, 1 2008. That is when The Explosionist by Jenny Davidson is coming out. I had the great luck to be sent an ARC and even though I’m only half way through (just started it last night) I’m amazed by it. Like so many, it is set in the 1930s and explores the time that in our reality led up to World War II. In this book it appears the major divergence in the timelines was when Wellington was defeated at Waterloo. As the book takes place, Scotland in the late 1930s uses fuel cells for energy, spiritualism is an established science, and suicide bombers are doing their thing. Fascinating!
How about Arthur Nersesian’s THE SWING VOTER OF STATEN ISLAND.
